Between Friday 2nd and Sunday 4th November 2012, ten of our Junior Cadets had a weekend staying at our Unit where they enjoyed den building at a National Trust site and prepared and took part in Halloween games. Fun was had by all!
On Sunday 28th October, eight cadets and two staff members went onboard two yachts at a local sail training centre. The yachts were a Beneteau 35 and a Bavaria 46. During the week the cadets formed part of the crew and did navigation around the local coast line stopping at different locations each night. They carried out man-overboard practice, points of sail and many other tasks. Six cadets came away with the RYA Competent Crew qualification. All in all, a great week!
Over the weekend of 20th/21st October 2012, seven of our cadets took part in the Trafalgar Parade at Madron. Six of the seven cadets went across to the Penzance Sea Cadet Unit on the Saturday to train for the Guard with other cadets and staff from the Cornwall District, and stayed overnight there. On the Sunday, our six were joined by a seventh cadet and two members of our staff from our Unit. The Parade consisted of members of the Royal Navy, Sea Cadets, The Culdrose Band and Veterans, and as always, our cadets did the Unit proud.
Over the weekend of 29th/30th September 2012, nine of our cadets took part in a Rowing qualification weekend. The cadets were based at our Unit and the practical side took place in Falmouth Harbour. Due to high winds on the Sunday, the practical seesions could not be completed, but the following Saturday saw our cadets on Stithians Lake to complete the courses.
Qualifications gained were four Competent Crews, four Supervised Coxswains and one Coxswain. Well done to all the cadets!
