On Monday 21st February we were visited by the MP for Truro and Falmouth, Sarah Newton MP. During her visit, she was given a tour of the Unit and met the cadets for a chat.
On a very cold day, our cadets took to the water on Stithians Lake in our Picos and to try out our new pulling (rowing) boat, the Trinity 500. Although the air temperature was barely above freezing (water temperature about 4 degrees!), the cadets enjoyed the day.
On Thursday 27th January 2011, we held our Presentation Evening where cadets are nominated for awards based on their performance over the previous year. Two of our cadets boarded a train heading for Plymouth on Sunday 16th January 2011 to take part in a Cadet General Training Week at HMS Raleigh. The course runs from a Sunday to the following Friday, and gives the cadets the opportunity of living and eating alongside RN sailors under training. During the week the cadets get the opportunity to run the obstacle course, carry out Sea Survival drills in the pool and partake in fire fighting and ship damage control evolutions run by the Royal Navy. There are opportunities to visit an RN Warship and go afloat to conduct harbour training. By the end of the week the cadets may have the opportunity to achieve Heartstart First Aid, Campcraft & Swim Test. New for this course was the chance to go on the "High Ropes".
