End of Boating Season 2010

The lift-out of the Unit boats during October draws an end to the 2010 boating season and marks the start of a long winter of maintainance. Our boats are lifted out free of charge by one of our sponsors, Mr Barry Rogers of Argar Services.
The 2010 boating season has been quiet compared to past years due to the boats going into the water late, building works and other events. But during the 2011 season we hope to get back on track and get the cadets back out on the water achieving lots of qualifications. We will also have a new addition to our fleet, the Trinity 500 which will be replacing our ASC pulling boat. We will still retain the other ASC which will be rigged as a sailing boat.

Goodbye to Lt Cdr Paddy Fraser - October 2010

Goodbye to Lt Cdr Paddy Fraser - October 2010

After forging strong links between our Unit and 849 Squadron at RNAS Culdrose, we say goodbye to Lt Cdr Paddy Fraser as he moves onto new pastures within the Royal Navy. Whilst at 849 Squadron, Lt Cdr Fraser was the Air Engineering Officer and approached our Unit to offer help where he could. Having been a member of the Sea Cadet Corps in the past, he was a great asset, and ensured a close affiliation between our Unit and 849 Squadron. We wish him well in his future posting, and he has assured us that he will stay in touch. Our affiliation remains intact on his departure, and his replacement, Lt Cdr Matt Flegg, has promised to continue his work with us.

Eden Project Bulb Planting - 2nd October 2010

Eden Project Bulb Planting - 2nd October 2010

On Saturday 2nd October 2010, four cadets, PO Mitchell and Mrs Clayton helped to plant purple crocus bulbs at the Eden Project in conjunction with the Thanks for Life charity supported by Rotary International. The purple crocus bulb is a symbol of the purple pinkie, which is the sign in many countries to show that a child has been innoculated against the deadly Poliomyelitis virus. Thankfully, this virus is no longer an real issue in this country but it does still effect the people of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nothern India and Nigeria. After the planting was complete, the cadets had free entry to the Eden Project domes for the rest of the visit.
