Royal Naval Parade - May 2013

Royal Naval Parade - May 2013

The Royal Naval Parade is carried out every 2 years. This year we chose to do this at our Boat Station in Stewartby.

This is a major event for our cadets and it is an opportunity for them to display the skills and talents they have developed over the past 24 months. The event was reviewed by the serving Royal Navy Officer responsible for the 63 units making up Eastern Area Sea Cadets.

The Reviewing Officer for our Royal Naval Parade was Commander Charles Bagot-Jewitt DL Royal Navy, who also very kindly volunteered as a "man overboard"!!

HMS Edinburgh Tour - May 2013

HMS Edinburgh Tour - May 2013

We were lucky enough to be invited for a tour of HMS Edinburgh prior to it being decommisioned.

The 30-year-old ship, the largest of its type built for the Royal Navy, returned to Portsmouth for the final time on 31 May following a farewell tour, which
included visits to its namesake city and Liverpool, where it was built.

Built as the Fleet’s shield against air attack – protecting task forces with their Sea Dart missiles, which they did to effect in the Falklands and Gulf War
– the Type 42 destroyers have evolved into the Navy’s workhorses, patrolling the Seven Seas as and when required by Whitehall.

HMS Edinburgh is the last of the Royal Navy's Type 42 destroyers. The Type 42 destroyers are to be replaced with Type 45 vessels, which are double the weight and carry the latest missile technology.
