SEA CADETS CELEBRATE 156 YEARS June 2012

SEA CADETS CELEBRATE 156 YEARS June 2012

Sea Cadets from Shirley & District are celebrating the Sea Cadet’s 156th birthday on June 25 and their own 56th anniversary this year!

The Saturdays, James Cracknell, Gary Neville, Helen Skelton, Barney Harwood and Jessie Ware are just some who have voiced their support for Sea Cadets with birthday messages.

We’ve been inspiring and challenging young people through nautical adventure for 156 years and we are thrilled that so many stars have wished us Happy Birthday. Sea Cadets across the country will be baking a specially designed Gala cake recipe courtesy of Fiona Cairns, in celebration and stars will be tweeting congratulations throughout the day.

Said Helen Skelton “I love a challenge from time to time but you guys face them daily with pride, passion and perseverance.  What a great organisation.  Big birthday wishes to you all!”

Cadets on TS Jack Petchey May 2012

During the week 6th to 11th May 2012 Cadets from our unit took part in a training exercise of the Sea Cadet training ship Jack Petchey.

From all comments from the cadets it would appear that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained useful qualifications.

On Monday 14th May cadets from the Unit were able to use the second Trinity 500 rowing boat on Olton Mere.

This boat was purchased with donations from local sponsors and supporters for which the cadets, staff and committees are totally grateful.

This now means that, in addition to canoeing and sailing, some 10 cadets can practise rowing in preparation for the forthcoming boating regatta in June.
