District Trafalgar Parade 14-10-12

District Trafalgar Parade 14-10-12

Each year one Unit from within the Warwickshire District holds a Parade to celebrate and remember the Battle of Trafalgar.

This year it was our turn and we provided the facilities to hold the parade in Solihull Town Centre on the above date.

In the region of 200 Sea Cadets marched through Mell Square and down the High Street the St Alphege Church.

The guard was inspected by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands before entering the church for a service.

The Mayor of Solihull and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant took the Salute on the returning parade.

Many thanks go to all who put in the time and effort to make this a spectacular event.

Solihull Barons Ice Hockey Team 07-10-12

The cadets were invited by the local Ice Hockey team to attend one of their matches.

Cadets therefore went to the Solihull Ice Ring on the above date and thoroughly enjoyed the event as well as meeting the team.

They have been invited back and we are just waiting for an appropriate date.

Annual Flag Day 29-09-12

Annual Flag Day 29-09-12

On Saturday the 29th we held our annual Flag Day collection.

Over the past years this has usually been held in Solihull town centre but this date had been previously resevered for another charity - we therefore were only able to collect in the local Shirley shopping centre.

This was a disapointment to us as was shown by the donations received from the public but then every penny helps and the funds will be put to good use for the cadets benefit.

We raised £282.

Annual RNP 24-09-12

Annual RNP 24-09-12

The secondpart of our annual inspection took place on Monday 24th September

Congratulations and a job well done for performance and all the hard work leading up to it. The Cadets made a real impression on the parents and visitors, especially those who had not been before.

Alistair Ewing Chair of Olton Mere was amazed at what is on offer for the kids and the time and dedication given by the staff. He also now knows what an important role the Sailing Club plays in helping our organisation with water time for the cadets.

Shirley Lions were also there, they had not visited since the unit was over the road. Not a done deal yet but i think we will secure the funding for 2 cadets to go off shore on an annual basis.

The Mayor commented he had lived in the area 29 years and didn't know we existed, he certainly knows now.

Green Bowls 23-09-12

A local Lawn Green bowls team challenged our Unit to a fun day bowls event.

Adults from the Unit and some Cadets attended and had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Although none of our team had ever played green bowls before they did extremely well with one cadet winning his 'end'
