Police Visit Junior Cadets- 12/10/2016

3 Star Kayaking Course- 15/08/2016

Over the past few days, a group of staff grabbed their paddles and traveled to North Wales to undergo training and assessment for their BCU 3* white water kayaking award.

We would like to congratulate Mid (SCC) Liam Humphries, Sgt (SCC) Sam Pollock and PO (SCC) Patrick Devaney on passing this course, which is the highest award in personal paddling skills available. This will also enable them to work towards their Level 2 paddlesport coach award, allowing our cadets to progress beyond the BCU 1* certificate which is the highest award in paddling that our unit can currently assess.

District Summer Camp- 24/07/2016

Five of our cadets travelled down to Portsmouth on the first week of their summer holidays for our district summer camp. They spent their week getting to know other cadets from all over the Merseyside area, as well as living on board an ex Royal Navy warship - HMS Bristol.

Throughout the week our cadets did lots of activities such as sailing, powerboating, and hiking through the nearby forest. They also went on social trips to Paultons Theme Park and go-karting. All of our cadets had a fantastic week, and say they can't wait to go again next year.

Edward Rushton Award- 30/06/2016

We are very happy to announce that one of our cadets, OC Liam Withe, has been presented with the Radio City and YKids Edward Rushton award.

Edward Rushton was born in Liverpool in 1756 and began working as a sailor at the age of 18. When on a voyage that was carrying slaves below deck he made the unpopular decision to feed them even though many had an eye infection that caused blindness. Edward caught the disease and became blind himself, becoming an outcast to society. This did not stop him, however, and he went on to found Liverpool's first School for the Blind.

This award, then, is given for making a difference even when it is unpopular- we believe OC Withe is a very deserving recipient as he can always be counted on to stand up for others and say what he thinks is right even when others do not agree. Well done from us all.
