District First Aid Competition- 06/04/2017

Our unit recently participated in the first-ever district level first aid competition! Both our cadet team and staff team were tasked over the course of a parade night with dealing with various first aid situations, such as seriously bleeding and unconscious casualties, and were scored on how effectively they managed the situation as well as on their skills in working as a team.

After multiple rounds of both individual and team assessments, the results were calculated and both our cadet and staff teams awarded with gold medals! We will build upon this fantastic result by scheduling more first aid scenario training into our parade night training programme - so that these teams can pass on their skills to our younger cadets.

Unit Review- 04/04/2017

After much preparation, tonight our unit was visited by staff from district and area level for our annual unit review. The purpose of this review process is to ensure that we are delivering our cadets the best experience possible, and to assign our score we have been assessed in multiple areas such as cadet advancement, number of qualifications gained, and community outreach. Over the course of the evening our cadets also underwent a formal uniform inspection and had a chat with the visiting officers about their time in our unit.

We are still awaiting the results of this process, however we are confident that we will either maintain or improve upon the fantastic results that we have achieved in previous years.

Climbing Hangar- 01/04/2017

For our March social trip, we took our cadets to the Climbing Hangar bouldering centre. Our cadets had access to dozens of bouldering problems set above crash mats for them to fall down onto, as well as a bouldering pirate ship complete with massive slides and tunnels. Our trained unit staff were on hand to guide the cadets through some problems to get them into the swing of things, as well as point the cadets towards new problems suitable for their ability.

All of our cadets loved their time at the Climbing Hangar, and it remains a firm favourite for our future social trips.

Unit Training Weekend- 01/04/2017

On the weekend, the cadets stayed over at the unit to prepare for the upcoming unit review. They were all polishing their boots and sewing their jackets- a weekend well spent! To add to the fun of the weekend, the cadets went on the monthly social trip to the Climbing Hangr. The cadets all enjoyed the weekend and with a little help from the staff, their uniforms turned out perfect, ready for the review.

Band Workshop- 19/03/2017

With a plethora of parades coming up soon, the band needed to practice the songs we have all came to know and love, good old tunez like 'When the Saints Go Marching In' and 'It's a Long Way to Tipperary'

As well as the current band members being there, it was also an opportunity to recruit new members and build the band up to be even bigger and better! We successfully got some cadets to come down and hopefully become permanent members of the band. After all the cadets' hard work, we hope to see you all at the parades, where they can showcase their newly found talents!
