We are delighted to announce that one of our most senior cadets, AC Connor Taylor, has been selected as a Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Merseyside West District. This award is granted only to the most outstanding cadets on the basis of their exceptional dedication and contributions to the Sea Cadet Corps, and this applies to no cadet more than AC Taylor. AC Taylor joined the Sea Cadets a number of years ago and has since grown into one of the most mature and driven young people in our unit, serving as a role model to our younger cadets. Well done from all of us, we are very proud.

After all of our hard work prepping boats and getting instructor qualifications, this weekend we took all of our cadets to the district boating station for our first boating weekend of the season! Activities on offer were sailing, rowing, kayaking, and canoeing, meaning that any cadets that had not been boating before had a great opportunity to have a go at all of the different disciplines and see what they enjoyed. Cadets that had been boating before and knew what they enjoyed were able to do the same activity for the whole weekend, and most cadets that did this earned a new qualification in their chosen discipline.

Despite the weather sometimes not being on our side we could not be more pleased with how the weekend went, and hope that all of our cadets had a fantastic time. A special mention also goes to the cadets from Runcorn unit who joined us, as they mixed in with the cadets from our unit fantastically and were very well behaved.

Once a year our unit must undergo a review process in order to check that we are running things correctly, and also ensure that we are providing the best experience possible to our cadets. For this year's review we were joined by several senior members of the district command team, including the district officer himself, who all had a chance to inspect our cadets' uniform and have a chat with them about their time in our unit. 

As always our visitors were very impressed with the job that we are doing, paying particular compliments to our Royal Marine cadet detachment, and although the report has not yet been returned we are confident of a positive outcome.

In preparation for the upcoming boating season, we have purchased three new boats that will be used for the training of our cadets. The boats that we have purchased are a RIB, which will be used to provide safety cover for other boating activities and to train cadets for powerboat qualifications, a brand new Trinity 500 rowing boat, which will be added to the one we have already to enable our cadets to race against each other, and a brand new RS Quest sailing dinghy, which will be used to train our cadets in the RYA sailing programme.

In addition to our new boats one of our members of staff has just become qualified as an RYA start windsurfing instructor, meaning that we will now be able to train our cadets in all of the five water sports offered by the sea cadets at a unit level.

For this month's social trip we took our cadets to the newly opened Velocity trampoline park in Widnes. Once there they had access to a huge trampoline field and bouncy dodgeball court, as well as getting a chance to show off their gymnastic skills by throwing themselves head first into the foam pit.

After an hour of bouncing (and at least a dozen socks lost to the depths of the foam pit) our cadets came out of the park completely exhausted but having had a lot of fun.
