TS Otter were delighted with the news that their application to the MSSC Annual Premises Fund had been accepted and wasted no time in asking local building firm Randall & Warner to come along and start work on boarding, plastering and painting the ceiling during August. In addition new LED lights were fitted on the main deck and in the admin office, much to the delight of CI Bailey! The transformation has been remarkable and with the repairs to the main deck floor also now complete thanks to Mervyn Watkins Joinery, we are now ready to start the preparation work for sanding and varnishing the floor and painting of the walls!! Not another job I hear you all shout.
On behalf of the committee, staff and cadets I would like to express our huge thanks to Angie Mitchel, Nicola Hazel and the team at South West Area for all their help with the Area Fund Grant of £7500.00; to the HMS Hermes Association whose donation of £500.00 for refurbishment helped us raise the additional 20% needed to complete the work and of course finally to all at TS Otter who consistently assist with car parking, bag packs and fetes to name but a few to help keep the funds coming in that help to keep our lovely old building looking at its best. Many thanks to you all.
All this meant that for several parade nights in the middle of August TS Otter was homeless! That is, we would have been had not Tewkesbury Sailing Club come to the rescue. We were able to parade there while the above extensive renovation work was done to the interior of our building in Trinity Walk. The temporary hospitality given to us by the Tewkesbury Sailing Club typifies the good relationship that exists between the Club and our Unit, and we wish to record our thanks to the Commodore of the Club, Dr Neil Cooke, and the members for providing us with temporary shelter.
