Winter will soon be upon us! It's that time of year when we begin to smarten up and crack on with our part 1 training.  

What are you doing to smarten yourself up? Ironing your uniform before each parade night? Polishing your boots? Ensuring your hair is cut and chins shaved? The winter is an ideal time to work on our personal presentation - lets all aim to be the smartest on parade. 

 I would like everybody to work hard on their personal drill, when falling in for colours or classes, no prompting should be needed - we are all capable of being the smartest unit in the district- let's show it! 

And a final point; 7pm is the arrival time for all STAFF AND CADETS.  Can we all try and get here for this time.

In compliance with Safety Regulations, Fire and Rescue Services were put to the test with a simulated aircraft crash at our local airport, Staverton. Tewkesbury Sea Cadets and Staff were asked to play the part of the injured. The Padre was declared dead on the spot (no change there then!), but got bored being dead and went for a reviving cup of coffee!

The role of those with injuries was played so convincingly by the cadets that they won high praise from the Organisers and Airport Staff, who commented on the seriousness with which the cadets approached the event and their imaginative response to questions put by crash interviewers. This was an important piece of service to the community. In addition a donation of £250.00 was made to the unit. Very well done all

At the same ceremony as Leading Cadet Von Benzons award, Leading Cadet Thea Griffiths and Able Cadet Keri Macrow received their 1^st class Cook Steward certificates; the very last ones to be awarded on the old training scheme and at the same item Petty Officer Cadet Ashley Macrow received the very first ‘Cadet Instructor in Catering & Stewarding’ certificate to be awarded.

And to put the icing on the cake, Leading Cadet Thea Griffiths was promoted to Petty Officer Cadet and she will be one of Gloucestershire’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for the coming year.

Members of the ‘Fisgard’ Association paid a visit to TS Otter to present the prestigious Fisgard Plate to Leading Cadet Zara Von Benzon for achieving the highest ever marks at the end of her 1^st class marine engineering course earlier this year.  The award was previously given to the top student at the Royal Navy’s Artificer training school, HMS Fisgard until the Artificer branch was discontinued.  Since then the ‘Tiffies’ have presented the prestigious hand crafted silver prize to the top engineering cadet to encourage more to take up engineering as a career.  Well done Zara 

CI Abi Nash took to her first fund raising event for TS Otter with incredible ease.  With special thanks to Elmbury Lodge, (Abi’s employer) we were able to use their car park close to the M5 for what was to be a very entertaining, if slightly wet, day. 

Staff, parents and cadets alike all took to their duties with much enthusiasm, especially Mrs Ashmeade, who after yet another soaking of some poor unsuspecting volunteer, was quickly relieved of the hose and put onto polishing duty!!  A final total of just over £150.00 for unit funds was a great start, when’s the next one Abi?
