NCS PILOT SHORTLISTED FOR AWARD

NCS PILOT SHORTLISTED FOR AWARD

We are delighted to announce that Sea Cadets' National Citizen Service pilot is in with the chance of winning a prestigious award.

The scheme was piloted by the charity in four of our six areas last year, and now we have been shortlisted in the National Citizen Service Award category at the Children & Young People Now Awards 2017.

The awards will be held in London in November, and have become the gold standard for everyone working with children, young people and families. Now in their 12th year, these awards offer an opportunity to raise the profile of projects and initiatives to funders and the general public.

Fifty-eight cadets aged between 15 and 17 and from a range of backgrounds took part in the scheme, learning vital life skills along the way. Five NCS pilots were run between September and December in the London, South-West, North and North-West areas.

TS ROYALIST MAKES HEADLINES

TS ROYALIST MAKES HEADLINES

TS Royalist made headlines when it returned to the UK after success in the 2017 Tall Ships Races.

Sea Cadets' flagship made its way down the Thames yesterday (Wednesday 16 August) for a victory sail, culminating in Tower Bridge raising.

It follows TS Royalist becoming the first British ship in 31 years to win Sail Training International's Tall Ships Races – a fantastic feat on its own, without taking into consideration it was TS Royalist's first race and the crew was mostly made up of teenagers.

Sea Cadets yesterday welcomed BBC London and London Live on board TS Royalist, with cadets and volunteers interviewed by journalists. To see BBC London's report, visit: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0911mhl/london-news-evening-news-16082017, and watch at 09:50 for a teaser, 18:57 for the main report and 27:41 for a merry farewell.
