Support Our Bursaries Scheme for Cadets

We are reaching out to you with a special ask for your support. Sea Cadets offer young people the opportunity to develop valuable life skills, confidence, and a sense of responsibility through maritime-themed training and activities. However, not every young person can afford to participate, and this is where your support is crucial. This year, we anticipate a significant increase in demand, with around 80% of cadets likely to apply for bursaries. To meet this growing need, we must raise £475,000 by April 2025, and your contribution is crucial to achieving this goal.

By contributing to our bursary fund, you can help ensure that no young person is left behind due to financial constraints. Your generosity will directly fund training programmes, including professional BTEC qualifications.

We also offer bursaries to support educational and training opportunities aboard our tall ships during week-long sea voyages.

  • £355 will cover the costs for one sea cadet to participate in at-sea training.
  • £5,325 will cover the costs for 15 sea cadets to participate in at-sea training.
  • £10,650 will cover the costs for 30 sea cadets to participate in at-sea training.
  • £15,975 will cover the costs for 30 sea cadets to participate in at-sea training.

The full cost of running our five-day at-sea training programme is £1,450 per cadet, per week.  Participants are usually asked for a contribution of £430. For families who may still find this challenging, we offer bursaries of £355, bringing their contribution down to just £75 per cadet. Your support can help make this transformative experience a reality for more cadets.

Please consider making a donation today. Contact John Morris, Trusts Officer at jmorris@ms-sc.org for further details.  Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our young Sea Cadets, helping them navigate a brighter future.

Thank you for your generosity and support.

“The Sea Cadets yachts are a great experience for anyone my age and I’ve made friends that I’ll keep for life! I’ve learnt loads of skills and at the end of the week I was over the moon to find out I had achieved the RYA Competent Crew and Offshore Hand qualification. I’m already planning to get out again next year!”

“Sea Cadets lets us enjoy activities that we might not have had the opportunity to try before, for example, sailing on our tall ship TS Royalist. We sailed from Aberdeen to Inverness, and although the weather was not on our side for a few days, for me it was the hardest and yet funniest and most memorable experience ever.”
Cadet Daniel, Stonehaven

“I really enjoyed sailing aboard T.S Royalist - I felt included and part of the group and it was definitely the best week of my year. If you like being out on the water, offshore is perfect on any of the different sea cadet vessels. It can be a challenge, but it is so worth it. It's a once in a lifetime experience.”
