SEA CADETS WELCOME NEW CAPTAIN

Sea Cadets welcomes their new Captain, Captain Phil Russell MA MSc CEng CMarEng FIMarEST MRINA Royal Navy. Captain Phil Russell RN joins as Captain of the Sea Cadets from the Commercial Supported Shipping team at MOD Abbey Wood in Bristol and replaces Captain Johnathan Holloway RN who leaves the charity on retirement of the Royal Navy.

On joining the charity the Captain says: “I am delighted to be joining Sea Cadets as their new Captain. I’m excited to get into the job and looking forward to meeting as many teams across the country during my first weeks in post. The job is considered to be a very important appointment by the Royal Navy and it is my great privilege to be joining Sea Cadets.”

Congratulations to the hundreds of Sea Cadets that took part in the National Drill and Piping competition 2015! The competition was held on Saturday 25 April at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint, Cornwall. The results are:

SEA CADETS COMMEMORATE GALLIPOLI IN TURKEY

Two Sea Cadets have flown to Turkey to join the First Sea Lord to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli today.

Cadet Sergeant Georgina from Sussex District and Petty Officer Cadet Craig from London Southern District will pass a wreath to the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir George Zambellas KCB DSC ADC DL, at the ceremony at Cape Helles Memorial Site.

The Prince of Wales and Prince Harry as well as leaders from Australia, New Zealand and Turkey will also be at the centenary ceremony.

CADETS REDEDICATE MEMORIAL IN REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY

13 Cadets and one Junior Cadet travelled to the National Remembrance Arboretum in Staffordshire, to rededicate the memorial for Sea Cadets who have gone on to serve their country.

The Arboretum has 50,000 trees and 300 memorials. It is the UK's centre of remembrance, right in the heart of the country, where people can go to honour the fallen.

Junior Cadet Jack, from Nottinghamshire & Derby district, were two of the cadets who attended the service. Jack said: "I was given the pleasure of laying the wreath in remembrance of the Sea Cadets who served our country. It was a real honour to meet the Commodore Miller and the Captain Sea Cadets Captain Holloway. I wouldn't swap this day for anything."

The six brand new Navy Board Cadets for 2015, POC Keiran from Northants & Leics district, LC Nikolas from London Eastern district, POC Daniel from Northern Ireland district, LC Shannon from Merseyside East district, POC Charlie from East Kent district and POC Ashley from Warwickshire district, are taking part in the Mountbatten Festival of Music today!

The festival features the Massed Bands of Her Majesty's Royal Marines, performing over three nights and featuring a range of musical styles.
