Sea Cadet volunteer, Samantha Town from Greenwich, took part in the Tall Ships Regatta thanks to a bursary from Seafarers UK.

Samantha joined the trainee crew to compete in this year’s Tall Ships Regatta on board Dar Mlodziezy that started in Falmouth on Saturday 31 August, with five other young people that were supported with a bursary from Seafarers UK.  She thoroughly enjoyed being part of the crew, “I am really hoping that this trip will give me the self-confidence needed to make friends if I get to university, or else to pursue a career in the maritime sector.”

Sea Cadets and Seafarers UK were joint charity partners for the Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Festival. Councillor Denise Hyland, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich said: “Their support has been crucial in helping to promote the Royal Borough and its historic maritime landmarks while also providing once in a lifetime opportunities for local young people to gain new skills as they experienced life sailing on the high seas.”

On Monday 8 September, Sea Cadets from Kingston and Southwark helped to celebrate the country's most iconic river, by taking part in the Source to Sea River Relay.

Cadets had the honour of marching the bottle through the Houses of Parliament, where Petty Officer Cadet Wood handed the bottle over to Mr Speaker. Mr Speaker was delighted to accept the bottle into the Houses of Parliament and congratulated the cadets for their efforts.

The Source to Sea River Relay is part of the Totally Thames celebration of London's iconic river. Journeying over 200 miles in 45 days, the bottle will pass through communities of walkers, swimmers, rowers, sailors, boat owners and many more individuals passionate about the river.
