Sea Cadets in RN Junior Field Gun Competiton

18 cadets and volunteers aged 16 -25 formed a single crew and took part in the RN’s Junior Field Gun competition at HMS Collingwood today, and went through to the final!

They competed against crews (teams) from lots of organisations including the RN, Princes Trust and Army Cadets. They were all competing for the competition shield as well as the Inter Service Cadet shield, which they won last year. The competition sees crews racing with a 1.5tonne field gun.

The Sea Cadet crew drew on cadets and volunteers from lots of units from across the UK including Newcastle and Cornwall. The competition is about team work, commitment, dexterity and coordination while manouvering the equipment over the course.

Battle of the Atlantic - 70th Anniversary

Over the weekend (25 -27 May) over 200 cadets  from across the North West took part in the Battle of the Atlantic commemoration in Liverpool. They put on fine displays of parade, drill, mini field gun, hornpipe and club swinging as well as helped out at the vetern's centre where they made sure veterans all had a good cup of tea at the Old Port of Liverpool Building.

Sea Cadets attended the Kohima Memorial Veterans Service in York at the request of HRH The Duke of York.  They lined the steps leading to the West door of the Minster – took part in the Service then formed an honour guard for the Veterans as they went into the Chapter House to meet the Duke.  Finally they went to the Kohima Memorial where wreaths were laid.

The winners of this year’s Sea Cadet Royalist Regatta was Sunshine, closely followed by the Royal Navy and while Sea Cadets didn’t place in the top three (Fort Vale came 3rd) they did win best dressed crew for a second year running!

The Sea Cadet Royalist Regatta, now in its 16th year, sailed off Portsmouth on 17 May to raise funds for the charity. Sea Cadets from Edmonton unit were members of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries crew while Cowes Sea Cadets had a crew sponsored by Lord Iliffe and a mixed Sea Cadet crew took part thanks to donations from sponsors.

Racing in Beneteau Oceanis 37’ yachts supplied by Fairview Sailing 8 teams were  competing for the Shipwrights’ Trophy.

Race results were:

1st prize: Sunshine
2nd prize: Royal Navy
3rd prize: Ted Fort
City Cup:Worshipful Company of Actuaries and Edmondton Sea Cadets

Sailing Regatta Gets Under Way

The Sea Cadet Royalist Regatta, now in its 16th year, sails off Portsmouth on 17 May to raise funds for the charity. Sea Cadets aged 16 -17 are also taking part in this great day of racing Beneteau Oceanis 37’ yachts, supplied by Fairview Sailing.

Eight teams are competing for the Shipwrights’ Trophy, including the Royal Navy. Last year’s winners were Fort Vale Engineering and the event raised over £35,000 for the charity’s work with young people.

The event starts with informal races in the Solent with the main race, organised by Royal Thames Yacht Club, taking place on 17 May. Prizes are awarded at the end of the days racing.
