COUNTDOWN TO FLAGSHIP NAMING!

COUNTDOWN TO FLAGSHIP NAMING!

Sea Cadets across the UK are counting down to the official Naming of the new flagship, by HRH The Princess Royal tomorrow, Friday 29 May at Canary Wharf, London.

HRH The Princess Royal will honour the vessel by naming it TS Royalist, as she did the former vessel 44 years ago in 1971. Joining HRH will be the Chaplain of the Fleet, The Venerable Ian Wheatley QHC RN who will formally commission the ship into service and the ship is being blessed by the Bishop of London, Rt Revd and Rt Hon Richard Chartres KCVO.

Helping the festivities along will be over 100 young cadets and the major donors and supporters who have been instrumental in helping the charity raise £4.8 million to build the new ship. It's an incredible achievement and one which Sea Cadets are very proud of.

BELFAST TALL SHIPS

Sea Cadets have once again been chosen to be one of five charity partners for the Tall Ships festival 2015, held between 2 - 5 July in Belfast.

Sea Cadets from across Northern Ireland are getting ready to welcome visitors of this year's festival. 42 Tall Ships from all over the world will anchor in Belfast, before sailing onto Alesun in Norway and Aalborg in Denmark.

In 2014 the charity was proud to be a Tall Ships partner in London and saw thousands of spectators pour through the gates of Greenwich to witness the spectacular display of 40 tall ships sailing down the river Thames.

This is the third time that Belfast has hosted the races, having previously welcomed the ships in 1991 and 2009.

The City hopes to attract 500,000 people, with another 500,000 watching the ships arrive and leave along the Northern Ireland and Irish coasts. The ships will be berthed in and around Belfast Harbour and the Titanic Quarter area. It's a fantastic experience and helps to put Sea Cadets in the centre of the community, we are thrilled to be taking part.
