Royal Marine Cadet honoured

Cadet Corporal Sam Keating of MKSCC’s Royal Marine Cadet Detachment was installed as Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire's Sea Cadet, the unit’s seventh in succession. Despite having served for only a little over two years, Sam has made meteoric progress through the Royal Marine Cadet ranks and is always an enthusiastic volunteer for unit sporting and civic activities.

Through the coming year Sam will attend the Lord Lieutenant during his official engagements, particularly royal visits.

MSSC HOLDS ITS ANNUAL COURT

On 11 October, more than 120 MSSC members, trustees and supporters gathered at Trinity House, London, for Annual Court, the charity’s AGM.

Marine Society was delighted to take the opportunity to present its annual awards. Susan Dio, CEP of BP Shipping, was the guest speaker, and Petty Officer Cadet Dani, a sea cadet from Flitwick and Ampthill Unit, gave a speech about her experiences in the Corps.

The award winners were:

- MCA Officer Trainee of the Year Award: Tristan Greaney

- GCSE/A-Level Outstanding Achievement: Petty Officer Cheryl More RN

- Middlesex University Award, for outstanding achievement in MSc Professional Practice Studies: Gordon Foot

- Open University Award for outstanding achievement in studies towards BA Leadership and Management: Liam Hyland

- John William Slater Award for outstanding achievement in Officer of the Watch Unlimited studies: Kevin Lennon

- Marine Society Lifelong Learning Award: Gordon Foot

Congratulations to this year's competitors and winners at the National Sea Cadet Sailing Regatta!

The event took place in Southport on Saturday, and the bad weather didn't dampen spirits.

First-Aid champions - again!

For the fourth year in succession a team from Milton Keynes are the corps' national champions.  They then went on to represent the corps in the all-cadet competition they were second only to a CCF unit from a large boarding school.  Coached by staff led by CPO Heather Cole and CI Richard Blackwell, who knows what they might achieve next year!
