Sea Cadets across the UK took part in Armed Forces Day celebrations through the last week of June.  Joining up with their cadet and sevices counterparts they took part in field gun races, helped out at stalls and showed the general public exactly what Sea Cadets is all about.

Sea Cadets in Cardiff were lucky enough to meet First Sea Lord & Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sir George Zambellas KCB DSC ADC RN.  He took time out to speak to the cadets and volunteers and even to do a spot of flag waving!

Sea Cadets are celebrating 157 years of giving young people the best possible head start in life through nautical adventure and fun.  Sea Cadets will be holding celebrations in 400 units in ports, cities, towns and villages across the UK.

Sea Cadets have had another great year and were honoured to receive HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award 2012 in recognition of the great work that Sea Cadets and our volunteers do. After escorting HM The Queen on her Royal Barge down the Thames in the Diamond Jubilee River Pageant last year, receiving this award was the icing on the cake!

Sea Cadets across the UK also took on the challenge to Row the World in 80 Hours both on the water and on indoor rowing machines to raise money for their new tall ship.  They smashed the target of 24,900 miles easily, going on to row a total of 27,300 miles.  Here's to another 157 years!

Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets from units across London took part in the annual flag raising for Armed Forces Day at London City Hall with Mayor of London Boris Johnson. They also had the chance to be interviewed live for BFBS - British Forces Broadcast Service.

Sea Cadets are showcasing their Trinity 500, our four – person rowing boat at the Samsung World Rowing Cup at Eton Dorney, Buckinghamshire.  1500 schoolchildren arrived today, Friday 21 June, for the sold-out first day of this weekend event.

Indoor Rowing races are running throughout the World Cup weekend – offering children and adults, newcomers to rowing and old hands alike the opportunity to take on their friends and family on the indoor rowing machines.

The weekend offers a chance to show case the many and varied opportunities that are available in rowing, alongside the fantastic competition taking place on Dorney Lake.

Simon Dickie, British Rowing’s Head of Youth & Community and Participation says , “Rowing continues to benefit from the Olympic and Paralympic legacy, and the demand for rowing amongst young people has never been greater, clubs, schools and universities across the country are reporting record memberships and demand for learn to row courses, and this demand is clearly illustrated by the 1500 young people from dozens of schools who have applied to attend the World Rowing Cup on Friday.”
