BROMLEY SEA CADET UNIT RECEIVES BOOST IN FUNDING

Bromley Sea Cadet Unit has received £1,000 donation from the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners, and has donated bursaries to three cadets that have achieved Cadet of the Year.On Thursday 23 July Leader of Bromley Borough Council, Councillor Stephen Carr and Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Phil Russell RN visited the unit for their award evening and gave out three Cadet of the Year award certificates and trophies.

Commanding Officer, Lt (SCC) Bill Collier RMR, says: “We are delighted for the very generous donations from the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners. This generous donation will open up opportunities for young people to experience an offshore voyage they will never forget or join a course to gain a nationally accredited qualification to give them a great a head start in life.”

How would you like to win an exciting offshore voyage? What about having a photo that you’ve taken displayed alongside those of the best photographers in the Royal Navy? All you have to do for your chance to make this a reality is enter the Peregrine Trophy, the Royal Navy’s photography competition.

The judges of the competition are looking for photos that illustrate the opportunity, youth, fun, skill, teamwork and determination of Sea Cadets – that shouldn’t be too hard, considering all the things that units get up to every week.

SEA CADETS SUPPORT SECOND SEA LORD GARDEN PARTY

Around 20 Sea Cadets supported by volunteers attended the Second Sea Lord’s garden party at HMNB Portsmouth on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 July.

Cadets from Portsmouth and Warsash units helped to welcome guests, hand out programmes and stewarding. Portsmouth Unit recreated it’s national drill winning Colour Party display for guests to enjoy.

Dundonald Sea Cadets Unit is delighted that the Lloyds Bank Foundation announced that they with five other charities from Northern Ireland have been shortlisted for the UK Final of the Charity Achievement Awards. The six charities have all received £1,000.

Speaking after the NI Awards Ceremony UMT Chairperson, April Dalzell, said "The Lloyds Foundation helped get us back on our feet and gave our unit a real boost when we needed it most. It's great seeing our volunteers' efforts being recognised in this way. It would be fantastic if we were able to bring home the National Award from London!"
