CORNWALL CADET WINS NATIONAL AWARD

Leading Cadet Kieran, from Cornwall District, has been awarded by the Institute of Seamanship for his high standards and enthusiasm on his Advanced Seamanship Course.

Sub Lt (SCC) Benjamin Nash RNR and Unit Commanding Officer, said: "This was a surprise to all. He was nominated by Sea Cadets Director of Lifelong Learning, Mark Windsor, for his conduct during his 1st Class course in 2014." LC Kieran said: "It was an honour to be recognised for something I enjoy doing."

Cadet Dylan, 13, from Sea Cadets Malta, has won the Pope John XXIII Award for kindness, for helping his friend with learning difficulties at school.

He was presented with the award by the President of the Republic of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at a ceremony at the President’s Palace. The President said: “Dylan was a role-model not just for his classmates but for society as a whole. His efforts reflect his strong values and has shown himself to have a heart full of love.”

Three Royal Marines Cadets volunteers from Windsor & Eton Detachment tried to save the life of a man who was struck by lightning on the Brecon Beacons.

Volunteers James Nunn (pictured), James Sandiland and Andrew Gardner were training for the Three Peaks Challenge in the Beacons to raise money for the unit when lightning struck a man at the top of Corn Du mountain. They carried out resuscitation for around 45 minutes until mountain rescue arrive.

Sea Cadets is delighted to be selected as a charity partner at the Belfast Tall Ships Festival 2015, along with Seafarers UK, Mission to Seafarers, RNLI, Ocean Youth Trust Ireland and Belfast Lough Sailability.

Sea Cadets from Northern Ireland, Scotland and North West England will be entertaining the crowds by singing songs inspired by musical theatre, a 30-strong cadet massed marching band as well as a Sea Shanty performance. The festival runs from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 July at Belfast Harbour where 50 vessels will be docked.

Sea Cadets is proud to support Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June to show our support to the Armed Forces community. Units up and down the country are hosting and attending events in their neighbourhood.

Crewe & Newton le Willows units will be taking part in 'Picnic in the Park' events, Warrington Unit will be organising activities at their local event, whilst St Helen's Unit will be parading in their local area and hosting an event in their unit - to name a few examples!
