Gibraltar Cup winnners

Congratulations to Guildford Royal Marine cadets for winning the most grueling competition of the year. From Friday 4th to Sunday 6th March cadets from the Guildford Detachment aged 15-17 competed against 5 other Royal Marine detachments from across the UK to take home the Gibraltar cup. The three day competition held at the royal Marines Commando training camp at Lympstone saw the 6 teams navigate their way across challenging moorland to timed deadlines and display a variety of skills including camouflage and concealment, observation judging distance practical leadership and patrol lines. Throughout the competition cadets are marked and assessed by serving Royal Marines. The Gibraltar cup competition aims to identify the best all round Royal Marines cadets detachment In The Sea Cadet Corps- a real highlight of the year for cadets. There is also a competition for the best section commander which Guildford also won

Detachment commander Sgt Kev Lomas said myself and the other detachment staff have been very impressed with the spirit and level of effort the teams and reserves have put into preparing for the competition. They have enjoyed their  training and worked hard throughout, they were exited and nervous about the competition. The cadets loved the competition but found it challenging. All the staff and parents of the cadets are very proud of them their team spirit and achievement.

Centre of Excellence

There is some excellent work going on in the unit at present. Many thanks to the UMC, staff and parents. The Galley and drying room are complete and the wash down area laid.
