Sea Cadet Flagship Update

Sea Cadet Flagship Update

17/09/2013

We had some great coverage about the announcement of our new ship contract with Astilleros Gondan and 10 days ago the kick off meeting took place at the Spanish yard.

We’ve also started tests of the 1:12 scale model of the new Sea Cadet flagship at the Southampton Test Tank and these are going well.

Meanwhile, fundraising continues with a total to date of £4m raised, so £0.8m to go!  Help us get there and donate to our appeal here: www.justgiving.com/new-ship-appeal

RS Feva Worlds Championships 2013

RS Feva Worlds Championships 2013

28/08/2013

Two Sea Cadets from the Richmond Unit competed in the RS Feva World Championships in Marina di Grosseto, Italy from 19 - 26 July 2013, and were awarded a Silver Fleet position.

Brothers, Leading Cadet Oliver, aged 16 and Able Cadet Sam, aged 14, were awarded the Silver Fleet position at the annual youth sailing event.

Young people from across the UK, Italy, Holland and Scandinavia to name a few were on 170 boats on the Marina di Grosseto.

Oliver and Sam have competed together for a number of years with much of their training gained from the Sea Cadets Welsh Harp Boat Station, London.

Sam commented: “The event was very challenging with particularly strong competition from the UK’s Royal Yachting Association national squad trained sailors who finished with high positions within the leading top 60 Gold fleet. With further intense competition from the other nations we were very pleased with our Silver fleet position and would hope that we have the opportunity to sail in next year’s event to be staged in Brittany, France.”
