Sea Cadets are getting ready for a competitive September, as this year’s area and district finalists go head to head for the National Combined and Sailing Regatta trophies.

Hundreds of Sea Cadets from across the UK will be competing at the National Combined Regatta at the Royal Victoria Docks on Saturday 6 September, and the Sailing Regatta at Southport on Saturday 27 September.

Throughout the year, cadets have been competing in district and area regattas in over 400 towns, in a range of water sports, including sailing, windsurfing, rowing and power boating.

Congratulations to everyone who has taken part in the regattas throughout the year, and good luck to those competing in September!

Hartlepool Sea Cadets have secured the future of the unit, thanks to a generous donation from Hartlepool Youth - a grant giving organisation. Local solicitors Square One Law helped to draw up the contract. The £100,000 donation ensures that they can buy the building that they currently lease.

Paul Harrison, treasurer of Hartlepool Sea Cadets, said: “This is a fantastic location for Sea Cadets and we could not have it any better, being so close to the marina and all the facilities we have here. With Hartlepool being such a proud maritime town, we have an active unit and securing ownership of our building means that we can look forward to a very exciting future.”

Over 1,600 Sea Cadets in Bristol, Wiltshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall are set to benefit from new musical instruments and equipment, and for those cadets and volunteers that would like to develop their musical talent further they can apply for a scholarship and gain accredited qualifications, thanks to a generous donation from the WPA Benevolent Foundation.

Sea Cadets were present to welcome and thank their supporters from the WPA Benevolent Foundation; Trustee, Mr Rupert Phillips and Director of Good Causes, Charlie MacEwan, on Saturday 12 July at HMS Flying Fox in Bristol.

The Foundation is already helping to deliver a new boat training centre for cadets at St Stithians Lake in Cornwall, and supporting new minibuses and trailers for units in the South West.
