Sea Cadets Get Stripey!

Sea Cadets Get Stripey!

14/05/2014

Sea Cadets are getting stripey on 16 May to show our support for Seafarers UK's newest campaign. Inviting employees of maritime businesses to ‘Get stripey’ on Friday 16 May, and to donate just £1 each in support of seafarers and their families who are facing tough times, Seafarers UK are the leading grant making and fundraising charity for the maritime sector.

People can come to work dressed in a smart stripey top, a pair of stripey socks or perhaps a very loud stripey skirt or tie. They might want to be subtle and just paint stripes on their nails, or make more effort and even bake something stripey to sell. Basically anything stripey goes!

Bad weather hits Royalist Regatta

Bad weather hits Royalist Regatta

12/05/2014

Due to bad weather, a joint decision by the Royal Thames Yacht Club and Sea Cadets was made to cancel the Royalist Regatta race on Friday 9 May as the forecast was force nine winds, which can cause 23 to 30 foot waves and 41 to 47 knots wind speed. Unfortunately this is TS Royalist’s last regatta as the new ship will be ready next year.

Sea Cadets would like to give a big thank you to all our supporters for attending the regatta and contributing prizes for the raffle to raise money for the charity.

Over 50 Sea Cadets will today be taking part in this year’s Royalist Regatta – a two day competitive sailing race on the Solent in Portsmouth to raise money for the charity. Seven cadets will race on a Fairview yacht against seven other yachts with crews of experienced and amateur sailors.

Practice races start today followed by a black tie dinner at HMS Warrior, where 50 Sea Cadets will join the crews for dinner. On Friday 9 May, the race will start on the Solent to cross the finish line for a chance to take home the winning trophy.
