On Friday 8th May, Cadets and Staff were invited to join the Lord Lieutenant and Mayor of Aylesbury in the 70th Anniversary of VE Day. The evening kicked off with a reception at Kimble Hall, Little Kimble where the cadets were able to meet Lord Carrington, Town officials and various other members of the town council before the Lord Lieutenant was formally greeted by the Royal British Legion. They then headed to the Beacon Lighting ceremony atop of Coombe Hill.
Aylesbury Sea Cadets helped the event organizers in several ways during the evening, by handing out programmes, torches and unfortunately umbrella's! We also supported the event by providing a shuttle service from the car park to the top of the Coombe Hill for the Beacon Lighting for 40 plus guests.
Guests assembled around the Beacon around 21.20hrs where the Last Post was played, there were then readings and tributes read by the County Vice Chairman and the Chairman of The Royal British Legion. This was followed by a Two Minute Silence which was observed by everyone on a wet Friday evening.
Just after 21.30hrs and after Her Majesty The Queen had lit the first of the Beacons at Windsor Castle, the Lord Lieutenant accompanied by Lord Carrington and the Lord Lieutenant's Sea Cadet and Army Cadet, lit the VE70 Beacon to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of VE Day.
