October 2015 - Trafalgar Night Dinner, RAF Halton

On the 22nd October, PO McCowan and number of Cadets were once again invited to participate at the Annual RAF Halton Officers’ Trafalgar Night Dinner at Halton House Officers’ Mess.  The Cadets were responsible for piping on board the Guest of Honor Rear Admiral Williams CVO and parading the ‘Baron of Beef’ before the Dinner started.

A very big Bravo Zulu to all the Cadets that took part.  Rear Admiral Williams CVO along with all the Officers were very impressed with your commitment and enthusiasm.

October 2015 - District Swimming Gala, RAF Halton

On Saturday 17th October, the swimming team from T.S Broadsword which consisted of Cdt King, Cdt McCay-Brown, Cdt 1st Class Lockley-Brown, Cdt Cpl Nicklin, MC2 Wilson, MC2 St John, MC2 Wells and MC2 Crampton joined other cadets and staff from all over Oxon & Bucks for this year’s District Swimming Gala at RAF Halton.

The unit’s team came in a very respectable 4th place overall and we are pleased that as a result of his performance MC2 Crampton is now going through to represent the District at the Area Swimming Gala on the 22nd of November at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth. ‘Bravo Zulu’ to all who took part and thank you to Cdt Cpl Nicklin & MC2 Wilson for helping the PT staff with the running of the event.

October 2015 - Trafalgar Day Parade Training,...

On Sunday 11th October over 100 Cadets and Staff from across Oxon & Bucks District descended on RAF Halton for Parade training in preparation for the forthcoming Trafalgar Day Parade, which is being held this year in Oxford.  This was a good opportunity for the Cadets to brush up on their drill skills and was a perfect chance for a dress rehearsal of what to expect on the day.   Well done to everyone who took part.

October 2015 - Trafalgar Night Dinner, Hardings...

On the 21st October 1805, 27 British ships led by Admiral Lord Nelson who was aboard HMS Victory battled and defeated 33 French and Spanish Ships off the south-west coast of Spain at the ‘Battle of Trafalgar’.  The victorious British fleet put out of action 22 of the Franco-Spanish ships in the battle.  However they returned home with saddened hearts as Lord Nelson had been mortally wounded in battle.  Following his death Lord Nelson was given a state funeral and he became one of Britain’s greatest ever war heroes.

To commemorate this momentous battle and celebrate Admiral Lord Nelson’s life and leadership it has become customary to hold a ‘Mess Dinner’ and T.S Broadsword were happy to return again to Hardings Restaurant at Aylesbury College on Saturday 3rd October for this year’s event.

The event was attended by a number of staff and supporters of the unit and our honorary guest was our very own District Officer and ex T.S Broadsword Instructor – Lt Gary Hamilton.  Our cadets piped Lt Hamilton on board, before all the guests were called into dinner where we enjoyed a tasty feast provided by the students and tutors of Aylesbury College followed by the customary toasts and speeches.   Dinner was followed by a couple of traditional mess games and chance to relax in the bar and catch up with friends old and new.
