Unit Camp - HMS Raleigh

The unit recently visited the training base, HMS Raleigh in Cornwall for a week of activities. These included Replenishment at Sea (RAS), Anchoring Operations, Assault Course, Harbour Training and many others.

On behalf of the cadets, staff and UMT of TS Diomede, I would like to thank everyone who attended the Trafalgar Day Parade and Training weekend.
The Lord Lieutenant, Mayors of Barnsley & Rotherham and Deputy Mayor of Doncaster all said how impressive the parade was.
Thank you also to all the Barnsley Instructors who have helped out both today and in the last few weeks.
The cadets who stayed at the unit were a very well behaved, thank you for doing such a great job putting the unit back in order, despite being tired from the weekend.
Thank you to all the staff who attended over the weekend and helped with training, and of course cleaning today.

Barnsley's Senior cadet Team (representing South Yorks) were the winners of the all-new Area Adventure Training Competion this weekend. The team of 4 (over 15's) competed against 5 other teams from West Yorks to Bedfordshire and stances included;  
  • Navigation  
  • Camp Craft  
  • Mountain Biking  
  •  Rock Climbing  
  • Risk Assessments  
  • First Aid  
  • Casualty Evacuation
  • Teamwork  
  • Menu Planning  
  • Attitude  

This was a fantastic result and reflects the efforts of the cadets' planning and preperation for the event.   Above is the team with 'R Tyke the Pigeon (team mascot)

A big 'Well Done' to the unit for our latest award. At the Area Conference in Lincoln on Sunday 27th Nov, the unit was recognised as the 'Most Improved Unit' amongst 60 units in Eastern Area. Seen here is the Commanding Officer, Caroline receiving the trophy for the unit, presented by the Captain of the Sea Cadets, Captain Mark Windsor Royal Navy.
