A cadet from Birmingham Vernon Sea Cadets and Royal Marines cadets was handpicked to attend a once in a lifetime event, the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Cadet Corporal Callum, fourth from the right, was hand picked and put forward to attend this amazing event due to his hard work, commitment and integrity. 

Starting his Sea Cadet journey as a Junior Cadet, Callum rose up the rates and quickly established himself as a hard working, committed and engaging cadet. Moving into the Sea Cadets he spent a year growing and developing his self confidence before taking the step to the Royal Marines, in the footsteps of his brother but most certainly not in his shadow. 

As a Royal Marine he worked hard to master the qualifications required for promotion boards, but Callum was unfortunately set back like many cadets due to the global Covid-19 Pandemic - this could have stopped him progressing, but Callum stuck to it and returned to parading and continued his progression.

Reaching the rate of Cadet Corporal is a fantastic achievement, and is a reflection of his years of competitions, camps and being parade commander here at Birmingham Vernon.

This St Georges Day Mercia District Sea Cadets gathered at St Pauls Church, St Pauls Square, to mark the occasion. 

Cadets from all over Mercia gathered to attend the service alongside Veteran organisations and members of the public, with a special guest Lord Mayor Cllr Marueen Cornish JP. 

After singing the national anthem and falling silent for the last call, cadets took part in a march past. A Royal Marine Cadet from Birmingham Vernon Royal Marine Detachment placed the wreath in memory of fallen naval personnel. 

A huge well done to our cadets who were smart, respectfull and professional. 

This easter Royal Marines Cadets and Sea Cadets from Birmingham Vernon attended the annual easter camp, held at Caerwent Training Area. 

Cadets took part in various activities, including basic field craft lessons, covert troop movements and even a display of "fire and movement" tactics from serving and ex Royal Marines. All of this whilst spending the weekend camping in their bivvies under the stars!

A fantastic experience in the field for our cadets and to top it off, Birmingam Vernon Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV's) were involved throughout in the delivery of these lessons.

Our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV) and Unit Management team attended the EY Showcase and awards presentation evening at Millennium point. 

This event was to highlight stories of young people within our community who have engaged in community projects and groups to help themselves navigate through life, and come out in a better more stable place. Two films specially made by the young people were presented which highlighted the struggles, challenges and perseverance of these young people - a truly inspiring event. 

Birmingham Vernon Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets were there along with other youth charities such as the Princes Trust and the West Midlands Police Cadets to engage with the community and build new relationships. 

The Lord Mayor of Birmingham Councillor Maureen Cornish JP attended the event and gave a speech, spoke to our volunteers and posed for a photo. 

As Officer In Charge, i would like to personally thank the hard work that our Royal Marines Detachment has made in making our attendance at this event possible, and for the continued support from the units management team.

Birmingham Vernon Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets is very proud to announce the promotion of our First Lieutenant. Petty Officer (SCC) Peter Fenton to Chief Petty Officer (SCC).

A hard earned promotion but much deserved from a hard working and committed member of staff. The entire ship's company is proud of you Chief.

As First Lieutenant, Chief Petty Officer (SCC) P Fenton sits on the Command team, and is vital to ensuring the daily routine of the ship is followed, helping to deliver the Sea Cadet experience.

The First Lieutenant (First LT) is second in command and also ensures the welfare of not only our cadets, but the uniformed instructors at the unit.
