Royal Marine Band workshop for South West Cadets

At the end of November, some of our Band Cadets attended a band workshop hosted by TS Weston in Weston-Super-Mare with members of the Royal Marines Band Service. It was a unique opportunity for our cadets to develop their Bel Lyre, Drum and Drum Major skills and learn some new pieces with guidance and advice from members of the Royal Marine Band.

Junior Cadets help flood relief

Junior Cadets help flood relief

PO Dave Goodwin and Parent Volunteers Christine Homewood and Mark Hill took  some cadets on Saturday 15th March to the J24 depot for flood relief victims. The cadets had collected 5 shopping trolleys worth of cleaning materials, some of the items were kindly donated by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs by way of Sea Cadet Parent Mark Hill. Christine is an existing FLAG (Flooding on the Levels Action Group) volunteer and came up with the idea of using the Sea Cadet e mail network to get cadets to bring materials in

The three junior cadets in the picture raised money for buying paintbrushes and deocaring materials by wearing plain clothes to sea cadets and paying a £1 for the privelege.

The cadets then visited Burrow Mump to view the extent of the flooding. This gave them a good understand of the nature of the problem. Community interface is a key part of the sea cadet curriculum.

Clipper Race Update

Clipper Race Update

Updated: 10/03/2014

All change at the top as Bridgwater Sea Cadets’ adopted flagship, Mission Performance romps home to Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre.  With two boats still racing and one retired, this strong performance puts Mission Performance back in contention.  Qingdao marks a crew change with Bridgwater Unit’s PO James Kenyon and 11 other Sea Cadet instructors joining skipper Matt Mitchell for Race 10 to San Francisco.  With only six days in harbour to undertake repairs and quite literally learn the ropes, the pressure’s on to make the crew gel and work together as a coherent team.

More to come as the countdown to Race 10 starts here…

Unit Review

Unit Review

From the Commanding Officer:

Bridgwater Sea Cadets will be parading for its Unit Review on Tuesday 18 March 2014.  All cadets are required to attend and parade in No1 or Blues uniform.  If parents know in advance that this is not possible, please write a few short words explaining why to admin@bridgwaterscc.org.uk.  I would also like to remind all cadets to parade with their caps, not berets, between now and Tuesday 18 March so we can take a short amount of time each parade night to practice the Off/On caps drill.
