Storm Desmond December 2015

When Storm Desmond hit Carlisle we immediately opened our unit as a safe haven for those flooded out of their properties and as a drop off point for donations which were then distributed to those in need.

PO Maleney & Able Cadet Ruddick took the unit canoe out and helped rescue 24 families from their flooded properties, they worked tirelessly all day until it got dark.

Other cadets that came down to the unit also helped make sandwiches, soup etc and took these out to the flooded areas for residents and emergency workers along with fresh drinking water.

For all our hard work the unit was awarded HMS Lord Leuitenants commendation for all our hard work, the first time this has ever been awarded to a unit and PO Maleney & PO Thirlwall got their own awards too

TAMSYN SWOOPS AT PEREGRINE AWARDS
