South Central First Aid Competition

Chichester Unit joined other units from South Central District to take part in the District First Aid Competition. The team consisting of four Cadets under took individual and team tasks. The competition required the cadets to use first aid training they have learnt within their respective units.

The Chichester Unit were lucky to recieve some training from a Paramedic Malc and his team of Community First Responders. One of  Responders, Kirstie, then kindly came along on another day to provide some additional training. 

Whilst the competition was won by Littlehampton unit, the cadets enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to next.

Cyber First Course

On Saturday Junior Cadets attended a Cyber First Trailblazers Course. This is a course that is delivered by the National Cyber Security Centre and is backed by the goverment. The course is designed to teach juniors CyberFirst activities and intended to inspire and encourage students from all backgrounds to consider a career in cyber security.

The first course covered,

  • Go Create – Learn the basics of how to customise a website and generate enthusiasm to contribute to the World Wide Web.
  • Digital Detective – Use digital forensics to identify the first person who has contracted a disease and learn how open source intelligence can lead to finding out more information about this person.
  • Creative Computing – Look into how creative design, arts and technology work together. Take a closer view on how the media industry and advertising combine these elements while having the chance in teams to create your own advert sequence using stop motion.

Technology Day with Southampton RAFC.

Chichester Sea Cadets were invited along to the RAFC at Southampton in January. As the facilities allowed for more cadets to have this experience other units in the district were invited along as well. The day consisted of drone flying and drone programming, leadership skills, Electronic circuit building and programming and flight simulators. Some cadets used the Virtual Reality headsets to get the full in seat experinence.

Lt Cdr Collins Gains his 5th Bar

Lt Cdr Collins has been awarded with his 5th Bar for his continued dedication to the Sea Cadets. The bar was presented by Cdr Grindell who was pleased to be making such a distingushed award.

Lt Cdr Collins is the Commanding Officer at the Chichester Unit and has also been the District Officer in his time with the Sea Cadets. He is a keen on his shooting and still matains his role as the Area Shooting Officer.

Golden Burgee Awarded

In December 2024 the Chichester Harbour and Selsey Sea Cadets were presented with a Golden Burgee by Area Officer Cdr Grindell, on his first official engagement as Area Officer. The award was given for the units Growth and Development over the preceeding twelve months.

As part of the evening Cdr Grindell also presented promotions and module bdges to both Juniors and Cadets.
