Trafalgar Day Celebrations

This year's Trafalgar Day celebrations saw the cadets attend the Bargeman's Rest in Newport.  Some of the cadets spent the day fundraising and selling raffle tickets.  The highlight of the afternoon was a renactment of the Battle of Trafalgar staged on the River Medina by Cowes two Little Brigs crewed by Ryde and Cowes Sea Cadets.  With realistic explosions and a commentary of events it was a brilliant afternoon.

District Parade on the Isle of Wight

District Parade on the Isle of Wight

This year the Isle of Wight hosted this year's District Parade.  Helping to celebrate the Queens's Diamond Jubliee, the 90th Anniversary of TS Osborne, Cowes and the 50th Anniversary of TS Royal George, Ryde.  Over 100 cadets from the Army, Air Force and Sea Cadets marched through Newport to St Thomas Square where a short ceremony took place.  The Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight then took the Salute as the cadets marched past St James Square on the way back to the TA Centre in Drill Hall Road where refreshments and cakes were served to all guests and cadets.

The Royal Visit

The Royal Visit

On the 25th July 2012 Her Majesty the Queen landed on Trinity Landing, greeted by a piping party made up of two cadets from T.S. Osborne and two from T.S. Royal George. After this welcome Her Majesty made her way along The Parade, unveiling a plack commemorating her Diamond Jubilee and listening to a performance by the Cowes County Primary School Choir. At the end of The Parade Her Majesty opened the new Lifeboat Station. After a short boat ride up to Cowes Yacht Haven, Her Majesty was met by the T.S. Osborne Band before heading indoors and meeting staff and cadets from both Cowes and Ryde units. After this Her Majesty left via Range Rover.
