Royal Visit - 14th October 2008

On Tuesday 14th October, 24 of our cadets went to Pendennis Shipyard to form part of the guest list for a visit by HRH The Duke of York. Our cadets were there to provide a Guard of Honour for Prince Andrew as he visited the Marine Skills Building. He stopped to chat with many of the cadets during his visit.

Shooting Weekend (CISAAM Selection) - 10th to...

Four of our cadets (A/C Fox, A/C Linthwaite, A/C Littlewood V and A/C Paull) went to HMS Raleigh and Okehampton Army Camp over the weekend for a shooting weekend aimed at selecting a team of 10 from the Southwest Area to enter the CISAAM (Cadet Interservice Skills at Arms Meeting). All of our cadets shot well, and we await the results of the selection process. An update will follow!
Update: A/C Paull and A/C Fox have made it through the selection process, and will attend the CISSAM between 23rd and 26th October. We wish them luck!

Competent Crew Weekend - 26th to 28th September...

This weekend, some of our cadets took to the water in Falmouth harbour to undertake training and assessment for the Sea Cadet Competent Crew qualification. J/C Littlejohn, J/C Lobban, J/C Molland and J/C Skinner took the Junior Pulling Boat, and A/C Littlewood G, A/C Littlewood V, Cdt Slater, Cdt Watson and NEC Mitchell-Fryer were in the ASCs (seen here). Our cadets were joined by two from the St. Austell unit, and the three boats were coxswained by A/C Paull, A/C Rawlins and O/C Linthwaite.
By the end of the weekend, all the cadets going for their Competent Crew qualification reached the standard required. A bonus for the coxswains was that the assessor was so impressed with them that A/C Paull and Rawlins were awarded their Coxswain qualification, and O/C Linthwaite achieved her Supervised Coxswain. Well done to all, and thanks to all the staff, particularly PO(SCC) Chris Jorey who worked long and hard to organise this weekend.

RFA Argus Visit - 16 September 2008

RFA Argus Visit - 16 September 2008

On the back of supporting the Cornwall MSSC event onboard RFA Argus on the 29th August, 14 of our cadets were invited back onboard for a full tour of the ship. The tour began with the usual safety brief, followed by a walk out onto the flight deck where the cadets stood on one of the aircraft lift points and descended into the aircraft hanger below. They were then given a tour of the hospital facilities on the Argus and let loose on the bridge! The next stop was the "Ops Room", and finally they visited the "Flyco" room, from where the aircraft operations are controlled. Many thanks to Chief Officer Steve Donkersley RFA for allowing us to visit, and to Third Officer Neil Stubbs RFA for making the arrangements. An interesting evening was had by all.
