Area ET Competition - 19th to 21st September 2008

Our EL team, fresh from our win at District level, headed off to the Long Mynd in Shropshire for the Southwest Area competition. A/C Mitchell once again led his team of A/C Close, A/C Davidson, A/C Richardson, O/C Pearce and Cdt Roberts on a physically demanding weekend, and after a close competition came in 4th.

A/C to L/C Advancement Week - 7th to 12th...

After a very demanding week at HMS Raleigh on the A/C to L/C Advancement Course, we say congratulations to AC Richardson-May who passed the course (with credit) and now becomes Leading Cadet Richardson-May. Well done!
We are hoping to get more of our Able Cadets onto this course over the next few months, so good luck to them.

Five of our cadets took part in the Cornwall District Expedition Training Competition held at Huish Woods scout camp at Taunton. The team comprised AC Mitchell (Team leader), AC Richardson, AC Close, AC Davidson and Cdt Roberts. They were assessed over the whole weekend in Campcraft (tents, cooking and general tidiness around the camp) and Navigation and teamwork during a 12km walk on Saturday. During the walk they had several different mock scenarios to deal with including casulty evacuation and talks on the country code. They also had kit checks and general quiz on EL.
Despite being one cadet short in the team (which reduced their overall score by one sixth), they still won the event, and so are through to the Southwest Area ET Competition being held between 19th and 21st September.
Well done to those cadets - a great effort, and good luck for the Area competition.

Six of our cadets attended a fundraising evening onboard RFA Argus, raising money for the Cornwall branch of the Marine Society and Sea Cadets (MS-SC). They were LC Argo, AC Rawlins, AC Littlewood G, OC Pearce, Cdt Paull and Cdt Woodland. The cadets helped direct guests to and through the ship to the bridge where the function was being held. The cadets then mingled with the guests, answering questions, and then escorted the guests off the ship at the end of the evening. The staff of the Argus and the guests were impressed by our cadets, and had a great evening.
It looks like we have made some friends on Argus!

Summer Shooting Camp - 17th to 22nd August 2008

Summer Shooting Camp - 17th to 22nd August 2008

Six cadets from our unit (AC Fox, AC Mitchell, AC Littlewood V, AC Davidson, AC Paull and OC Linthwaite) attended the Southwest Area Summer Shooting Camp at Sennybridge, Wales. They arrived on the Sunday and began with weapons handling, and then spent the next four days firing the L98A1 cadet rifle (based on the SA80). Littlewood V gained her Advanced Shooting Badge, and the others gained their Basic Shooting Badge. Four of them will now go onto the Area competition (29th-31st August) in Liverpool. The other two are busy that weekend with the District ET Competition - sometimes there are not enough days in the week!
