Shooting Weekend - 13th to 15th November 2009

Over the weekend of 13th to 15th November, four of our cadets attended a shooting weekend at HMS Raleigh. The weekend was primarily aimed at cadets who had not been shooting before, and so began on the Saturday morning with lessons in how to safely handle the L98 rifle (a variant of the SA80). The Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning were used to allow the cadets to experience shooting the L98, along with the L81 sniper rifle over 25 metre and 100 metre ranges.

Cornish Cruising Week - 25th to 30th October 2009

Cornish Cruising Week - 25th to 30th October 2009

During the Autumn half-term holidays, four cadets from our unit embarked on a yacht with Cornish Cruising for a week of sailing. During the week, they crewed and ran the yacht as their own, under the watchful eye of a Cornish Cruising instructor. Due to the weather, the cadets experience some rough seas during the journey to Fowey and back! A/C Townsend, O/C Roberts and Cdt Blackburn came away with their RYA Offshore Competent Crew qualification, and L/C Close qualified as a RYA Day Skipper. Well done to all.

Cornwall District Junior Weekend - 23rd to 25th...

Over the weekend of 23rd to 25th October 2009, seven of our Junior Cadets, accompanied by four senior cadets and five members of our staff, attended a Junior Cadet activity weekend at HMS Raleigh. They practised their drill in one of the Drill Sheds, did a short First Aid Course to obtain their Heart Start qualification, produced a Knot Board as part of Seamanship, and spent a morning on the water doing canoeing and powerboating. A very enjoyable (and tiring) weekend was had by all!
