National Footie Success

24 February 2019

Over the Weekend of the 22-24 Feb 2019, cadets from Fishguard Unit represented the South West Area at both the Junior Girls and Senior Girls 5 aside football.

Having fought a tough round of matches, both teams got through to the Sunday to compete for 1-4th places.

The Junior Girls, which was made up of cadets from Neath, plus Cdt 1st Emily and Cadet Maisie did really well and despite a hard fought Final, they lost in the final 5-3, coming home with the Silver medal.

The Senior Girls, which was made of Fishguard Cadets LC Amy, AC Molly and OC Elin, plus cadets from our friends at Tenby, Milford Haven and Swansea played in the 3rd/4th place match and won this to bring home the Bronze medal.

This is a fantastic set of result, sompeting at National Football is a huge honour and we are very proud of all of them. Well done Girls!

Victory Walker Visits Fishguard Unit

Victory Walker Visits Fishguard Unit

Victory Walker Jane visits Fishguard Sea Cadets and talks to cadets about why she is doing the Victory Walk

Commander Jane Allen RNR stopped at the unit tonight during her mammoth 5500 mile walk around the British coast

The below explains Jane’s background

...

JANE TACKLES 5,500 MILE WALK

After serving 37 years in the Royal Naval Reserve, Commander Jane Allen is now tackling a major fundraising effort by walking around the coast of mainland United Kingdom.
She is spending at least the first year of her retirement taking on the challenge, which will see her notching up an expected 5,500 miles on foot. Called the ‘Victory Walk’, Jane aims to raise cash for two naval charities close to her heart - the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and the Women’s Royal Naval Service Benevolent Trust.
Jane’s trek started from Portsmouth, outside HMS Victory on 21 October 2017, Trafalgar Day.
Trekking anti-clockwise from Portsmouth, Jane arrived in Scotland at the end of April and escaped back into England 6 months later. In Scotland alone she walked 2,183 miles, wore out 4 pairs of boots and the Victory Van covered almost 4,000 miles in support. She crossed back into England on Sat 10 Nov and then headed down the north west coast to enter Wales before Christmas.
The final stretch will involve walking the South West Coast Path as she heads back towards HMS Victory in Portsmouth where she hopes to arrive in early Summer of 2019.
