Loughborough Sea Cadets Reopens

17 October 2020

Throughout the Covid-19 Lockdown, Loughborough Sea Cadets has remained active at a virtul level. However, because of the hard work from the committee and staff teams, the unit has now recieved approval to reopen its doors and return to face to face training.

We have made a few changes at the unit  to support social distancing and enable the unit to remain Covid Secure.

We are all excited to welcome the cadets back to the unit after the 6 month break.

RNP SUCCESS

Last month the unit hosted another successfull RNP (Royal Navy Parade), with senior members of the Sea Cadets, local community and local dignitaries in attendance. The cadets worked really hard to create a variety of comedy sketches, which showcased all the things they have learnt throughout the past two years.

We would like to thank everyone who came to see the RNP, and look forward to seeing you again at future events

Drill Display

Loughborough's outstanding cadets put on a Drill Display at Whitwick's Party in the Park. After only 2 weeks practice a squad of 8, under the command of recently qualified Cadet Drill Instructor POC Martin, put on a flawless presentation to entertain the crowds. Despite occasional heckling from ex-squaddies, the squad did 2 displays. Commentary was provided by Lt. Adey

Never too OLD

Proving that you are never too old to learn and gain qualifications in the Sea Cadets, Lt. (SCC) Kay Adey gained her RYA Power Boat Instructors ticket at the age of 57! Having never done any boating till joining the corps 17years ago, Kay gained her power L2 in 1999 and her safety boat ticket in 2004. Kay also sails (a bit) and is currently trying for her Rowing Instructors ticket.

Although boating is a big part of Sea Cadets, land based qualifications are also easily obtained if you have the will and enthusiasm, no matter what your age.

Area Boatwork weekend

September saw an Area Boatwork weekend at Nottingham unit. Staff and cadets from across Eastern Area came together to sail, row and power boat.

The weather was very good, even if the water was a little cold, and everyone had a great time.
