Area Swim

Area Swim

Able Cadet Henry and four of our Juniors helped represent Severn District at the South West Area Swimming Competition at HMS Raleigh.
Every cadet from the district came away with at least one medal, and overall we helped the District come second overall in the competition.
Massive acheivements for our seasoned swimming champion but also our juniors, for whom, this was their first area competition and first time visiting a Naval Base.

National Trafalgar

National Trafalgar

October 21st marks the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, and each year 100's of Sea Cadets from across the country come together to mark this occasion with pomp and ceremony on Trafalgar Square in London.
This year our First Lieutenant represented South West Area as Second Officer of the Guard, marching with sword drawn with a guard of 48 cadets. The combined guard from Southern and South West Area's were increadibly well turned out, and the photos from the event look great.
Well done Sir.

Leading Junior Lukas climbs to the top

Leading Junior Lukas climbs to the top

At our October Divisions, amongst the presentations were some special awards for our longest serving junior.

Lukas was promoted to Leading Junior Sea Cadet, which marks the completion of all the module sections in the junior sea cadet syllabus with the addition of two further qualifications.

Lukas is Malvern unit’s first Leading Junior Cadet since 2015, since which time another rank within the junior syllabus has been introduced, making this achievement all the more special.

In addition, Lukas was presented with the Commodore’s Board Pennant badge. This is awarded to junior cadets that have completed all four module sections, with a further 8 modules completed on top of the 15 needed for each badge.

Again, the last of these in the unit was 8 years ago.

Well Done Lukas

An end of an era

An end of an era

Our Parents and Supporter's Association work tirelessly over 4 main events during the year to raise funds for the unit. These includes a porter service at the Three Counties Show Ground, and this month’s Autumn Show was a poignant one.

For many years these events have been headed and coordinated by Angie Parker, the chair of the P&SA, and Sarah Veale, but all good things must come to an end, and both Angie and Sarah have decided it is time to hang up their purple fleece, and it is hoped that more volunteers will be able to come forward to pick up the reigns.

Unit Chair David Black emphasised the contribution both have made during a presentation made at the end of the show, and the whole unit express their thanks.

While we look for a new chairperson for the P&SA, we keep our fingers crossed that Angie and Sarah won’t be strangers and might be able to help pull a trolley at least one more time in the future.

Area Regatta Success

Area Regatta Success

Despite the relentless rain, the Area Regatta Competition was a resounding success. AC Henry's paddle sports prowess stole the spotlight, with him claiming bronze, silver, and gold medals across various events. Meanwhile, the junior rowing team pulled well together, winning silver medals despite limited practice opportunities.
