Remembrance Day 2011

Remembrance Day 2011

We were asked by the Royal British Legion to provide a centry guard for the memorials at Mildenhall and Newmarket again.this year, so at 09.45 we formed and took part in the parade for Mildenhall in the morning. Following the church service and the luchtime refreshments we the turned out and were joined by Cadets and Marines from Red Lodge Unit at 13.30 for the parade in Newmarket.

Thank you once again to all our cadets. You were wonderful to turn out again for the second time in a fortnight.

Soham Over 60's

Soham Over 60's

On Friday 28th October, 2 cadets and 2 staff along with the Chaitman were invited to the over 60's group in Soham to talk about Sea Cadets. The cadets and staff were entertaining and informative. They engaged the audience in a knot tying session, reminding many of them of when they were in the Girl Guides.

Following a collection the Chairman was presented with a very generous £50 towards cadet funds.

We would like to thank Soham Over 60's group for their hospitality and generousity.

Mildenhall Host The District Trafalgar Day Parade

Mildenhall Host The District Trafalgar Day Parade

On Friday 21st October, 32 cadets from units throughout the district were welcomed at Mildenhall unit for Trafalgar weekend. Saturday morning came and the process of selecting the 24 cadet guard began. Each cadet worked hard and by the end of the day they welcomed their roast dinner.

Sunday came and everyone was nervous, especially the Chairman. Final preparations over and with the rest of the cadets and staff arriving the parade was under way. The DO referred to it as a 'jungernaught' nothing was going to stop it now.

There were 130 cadets and about 20 staff and they all looked magnificent. Lord Iveagh, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk and Col David Doe from USAF Mildenhall inspected along with other honoured guests such as Parish Council Chairman, Counciller Tony Wheble and his wife Jill, Counciller Malcolm Smith and his wife Coleen, CEO Parish Council Caroline Steggles, representatives from Ely RNA and friends from the Mildenhall Branch of the Royal British Legion. Comments and awe from the crowd as they marched through Mildenhall fronted by the band from RAF Honnington. A church service in St Mary's church presided over by the unit Padre, Reverend George Samiec and a parade back to the social club for refreshments.

Mildenhall Sea Cadets would like to thank the staff from Lincoln, Boston, Wisbech and Cambridge for giving of their time and expertise to make the event a truly memorable one. Letters and e-mails have been sent to the various individuals involved but we would like to thank everyone publicly for their help, support and patience in making this event possible.
