National Combined Regatta is a key event in the annual competition calendar, and Milton Keynes had a number of entries, as a result of a win at Area Paddlesports (500m Open Girls Double Kayak), and panel selection to represent Southern Area in the following: Open Boys Yole, Junior Girls Rowing, Open Girls Rowing.
On Sept 1st, after weeks of race training we descended on the Excel London in preparation for competing on the 2nd September.
Results:
Silver - 500m Open Girls Double Kayak
Able Cadets Frankie L, and Melissa H stormed to a silver medal in the 500m Kayak Sprint against the six other Areas, pipped for gold by Eastern Region. The National Silver is added to the Area & District gold medals.
Bronze - Junior Girls Rowing
Returning to Nationals for the second year in a row the Milton Keynes Junior Girls team was again selected to represent Southern Area. Due to availability challenges Aylesbury rounded out the boat crew with a Cadet joining the boat.
Improving on their 2022 results of 1st,2nd,3rd, the MK boat posted 1st,2nd,2nd in the round-robin format of the rowing regatta, totalling 8 points. Losing out to Northern Ireland (10pts) and North West Areas (9pts), sharing Bronze medal position with South West Area
Bravo Zulu - Open Girls Rowing
Selected to represent Southern Area at short notice, the Milton Keynes Open Girls crew put in a sterling effort with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd results, giving them 7 points and a joint 4th position. South West had a clean sweep of wins on 12 points, with Eastern & Northern Ireland Areas sharing the silver spoils.
Bravo Zulu - Open Single Boys Yole
Leadign Cadet Will C was selected to represent Southern Area in the Yole event, the sliding seat competition class. The Round Robin format yielded 1st, 2nd and 3rd results leaving Will just outside the medals on 7 points, with Northern taking Bronze on 8.
Our efforts at National Combined Regatta would not have been possible without support from Aylesbury, Salisbury & Henley units . We're very grateful for the sharing of crew, facilities and wisdom that helped the Milton Keynes teams improve and compete on the national stage.
