We take this opportunity to welcome two new volunteers to the Newcastle East Sea Cadets family. Congratulations to Michael Metcalf who was elected at our AGM as Chair (L), and Alan Hall who was elected as President (R).

Prior to becoming Chair, Michael worked in Television for over 30 years, he now spends his time involved with several charities, including Rotary, The Make A Wish Foundation and Northumbria Coalition Against Crime where he is a mentor and Ambassador for the Charity.

Alan is a retired businessman who specialised in the field of human resources working with many manufacturing companies in the North East and Yorkshire. His view is that it is important to try to give something back by supporting charitable activities. He is Immediate Past President of Ponteland Rotary and said he feels privileged to have been elected as President of Newcastle East Sea Cadets. Alan is married to Marian & has five children and three grandchildren.

With Michael and Alan's support and guidance, we will continue to strive to give young people from our region the very best head start in life through nautical adventure and fun.

Sea Cadets from all across the UK spent the weekend in London to celebrate Trafalgar Day on Sunday 18 October 2015. 400 young people met in Trafalgar Square to perform impressive displays of skip jump, formal parading with a 60 strong Massed Band to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar from 10.30am – 12.00pm. Up to 2,000 spectators were there.  It's a chance for cadets to show off team working skills and musical talents to dignitaries from the Royal Navy and to London’s spectators and tourists. This year cadets from the Air Training Corps and Army Cadet Force also joined the parade.

For over 100 years, Sea Cadets have marked the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar with a parade on Trafalgar Square, London on the Sunday closest to 21 October.

Due to expansion, Newcastle East Sea Cadets need the help of people like you - volunteers who are happy to roll up their sleeves, get involved and potentially make a difference to the lives of so many young people from our region.

We have lots of uniformed and non-uniformed roles to match your skills to help you work directly with cadets and give them a head start in life as you guide them through the training we do. Training and support will be provided to assist you.

As a volunteer member of our Unit you will gain a sense of personal achievement, invest in your local community, meet new people, make new friends, learn new skills and qualifications, become part of a team which supports young people and create the opportunity to bolster your CV.

This year's Sea Cadet Festival at the Intu Metro Centre on 5th & 6th September 2015 was a fun-packed and skilful event in which some of our cadets and volunteers impressed the large crowds gathered through their dancing, drill, static displays, skip jumping, music and just being really smart cadets. Great to see Northumberland, Tyne South and Teesside all represented as well as the Northern Area Band that included some of its Scottish members. Thank you to everyone who took part and to Intu Metro Centre for having us!
