SEAHAM SEA CADETS END 2015 ON A HIGH!

Having won three district competitions in 2015, Seaham stood an outside chance of winning the competition out-right leading up to the cross-country in November. Our cadets did us proud with one first place and two second places. Owing to the greater numbers entered by other units we were just beaten to overall victory. All we can say is the other units across the District will need to be on their guard next year when we are in our new unit and will have room for more cadets!

We've enjoyed so many different activities and had an array of different adventures, from formal dining and sleep overs at Catterick Garrison to visits and presentations by local dignitaries, boating weekends at Derwenthaugh and summer camps plus so much more!

SEAHAM SEA CADETS CELEBRATE TRAFALGAR DAY IN...

Sea Cadets from all across the UK spent the weekend in London to celebrate Trafalgar Day on Sunday 18 October 2015. 400 young people met in Trafalgar Square to perform impressive displays of skip jump, formal parading with a 60 strong Massed Band to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar from 10.30am – 12.00pm. Up to 2,000 spectators were there.  It's a chance for cadets to show off team working skills and musical talents to dignitaries from the Royal Navy and to London’s spectators and tourists. This year cadets from the Air Training Corps and Army Cadet Force also joined the parade.

For over 100 years, Sea Cadets have marked the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar with a parade on Trafalgar Square, London on the Sunday closest to 21 October.

SEAHAM SEA CADETS SPEND 1 WEEK ON HMS OCEAN

Some of our cadets got the trip of a lifetime in the Spring of 2015 with a free 5 day trip onboard the Royal Navy flag ship HMS Ocean. The trip took place from Scotland to Sunderland and our cadets experienced life at sea up close and first hand during the voyage. They were treated to watching helicopter landings, tours of the ships engine rooms, gun handling and some even got the steer the big ship through the waves.

We strive to give young people a head start in life through nautical adventure and fun regardless of what career choice they make. This was an amazing experience which will stay with our cadets for life.

HADRIANS WALL ADVENTURE TRAINING WEEKEND

In August 2015, we took the opportunity to "walk with the Romans" and spent the weekend camping at Hadrian's Wall in preparation for the forthcoming adventure training competition. Hadrian's Wall is 73 miles from sea to sea across some of the wildest and most dramatic country in England so it offered the perfect landscape on which to practice. Fortunately the weather was kind to us and we had a fantastic time.

We are pleased to announce our cadets from Seaham have won the 2015 District rowing competition. This is our our second victory of the year following on from the drill competition.
