Bag Packing at ASDA 24-05-14

Bag Packing at ASDA 24-05-14

On Monday 19th May ASDA opened their new store in the Parkgate centre on Stratford Road, Shirley.

The Unit was fortunate to be the first charitable organisation to hold an event there which we did on Saturday 24th by holding a Bag-packing day.

This was very worthwhile and we raised £810.39 which will be used to fund the new Boat storage facility currently being built.

To ensure we had sufficient cadets we split the event into three shifts and the picture shows the cadets from the 1st shift.

Well done to everyone and a thank you to the customers of ASDA for their donations.

On Saturday 24th May one of the events taking place was an off-shore week for 9 of the units junior cadets on the Sea Cadets ship TS Jack Petchey.

They are due back on the 30th May after this item had been written so we hope they all enjoyed the experience and gained some well earned qualifications.

Triathon 11-05-14

Triathon 11-05-14

On Sunday 11th May 2014 18 people (consisting of cadets, staff, unit assistants, committee, friends and family of Shirley Sea Cadets) took part in the Stratford-upon-Avon Triathlon in aid of the Unit.

The money is being raised is to purchase kayaking equipment and to enable Cadets to go on offshore voyages.

Every bit of sponsorship is gratefully received.

We entered 6 individuals who did all 3 disciplines, Swim 400m, Cycle 15m and Run 3m, and 4 teams of 3 who completed a discipline each.

The photo shows those who took part.

And they all still look fit and healthy even at the finish.
