SILVER EXPEDITION TRAINING

In mid April two cadets joined in with others from Kingston and Sunbury units to travel to Poole to take part in a practice waterborne expedition for their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Poole is a bustling tourist resort in the east of Dorset, known for its large natural harbour (2nd largest in the world behind Sydney), exciting entertainment and award winning blue flag beaches.

The qualifying expedition will be in July.

STOP PRESS - PATRONS LUNCH

12 Sea Cadets from around the UK have been selected to attend the Patrons Lunch.

On Sunday June 12th 2016, The Mall in St James’s Park will be transformed for its largest ever street party to celebrate The Queen’s patronage of over 600 charities and organisations on the occasion of her 90th birthday.

The two representing London Area Sea Cadets are both from Southwark Unit.

Further details after the event.

HMS COSSACK ASSOCIATION VIAN AWARD

Lilly-Mae Weston attended the HMS Cossack Association annual reunion at the Royal Beach Hotel, Southsea. Lilly-Mae was there to represent TS Cossack SCC and to receive the Vian Award in recognition of her service with Southwark Sea Cadet unit.

Admiral Philip Vian made his name as one of the most daring British naval commanders of the Second World War early in 1940 as the captain of the destroyer Cossack during the Altmark incident, before going on to hold high rank in the Mediterranean, during Operation Overlord and in the Far East.

It is a great honour to receive an award in memory of such an outstanding naval hero and Southwark Sea Cadet unit is proud of its connection with the HMS Cossack Association.

GET AWAY FOR EASTER

With the Sea Cadets the school holidays provide an excellent opportunity for doing something different

For one Southwark cadet it was off to HMS Bristol, Portsmouth accommodation ship, for London Southern Easter Camp during which he completed an RYA powerboating course and a RYA sailing course.

And for another it was joining in with City of London & Enfield cadets for 7 days cruising on the Norfolk Broads.

What would you like to do during the next half term holiday?
