Dunkirk Memorial House

Dunkirk Memorial House

On July 8th we were invited to do a field gun display at Dunkirk Memorial House at Bishops Lydeard. Dunkirk House is a British Legion home for ex servicemen and women and we were very pleased to be asked. The theme of the day was WW1 and was another very hot day.

The day started with a service and then the cadets were able to have free time to wander round until they were required for their display.

BZ to all who attended

Freedom Parade

Freedom Parade

We were honoured to be invited by 40cdo RM to take part as they exercised their freedom of the town. It was an extremely hot day which started with us being 'bussed' to Taunton cricket ground to join 40cdo in a huge photo to commemorate the day.

The crowds were cheering as everyone then marched through the town ending up at Vivary Park for a service.

In the afternoon we were invited to the Families Day where the field gun team did a short display.

BZ to everyone who took part especially as they were all in full uniform in blistering heat - they were all fantastic.

Weston Air Day

Weston Air Day

Our field gun team were in action at Weston Super Mare Air Day when they raced against the Air Cadets.

After a closely fought competition our team came out on top by a mere 4 seconds.

Well done to both teams

Whilst the other cadets were out enjoying another beautiful weekend out on the water, MC2 Connor and MC James were slaving away in the galley achieving their basic catering qualification. As it was the weekend of the Royal Wedding there was a red, white and blue theme and they even baked a two tier wedding cake. BZ

Easter Boating Weekend at SCTC Weymouth

Easter Boating Weekend at SCTC Weymouth

17 cadets and 10 instructors headed to SCTC Weymouth on Good Friday for a unit weekend of sailing and powerboating. Saturday morning was bitterley cold and showery but our resilient cadets headed back out after lunch. This paid off as the weather warmed up, the rain held off and they had a great afternoon out on the water.

On Saturday evening after a hearty roast for dinner, we all bimbled down to the beach for a massive game of volleyball.

Sunday was warmer and dry and saw all the powerboaters off to Portland whilst the sailors stayed in the bay.

All the cadets enjoyed the weekend, the powerboaters achieved their RYA power level 1 whilst the sailors gained some valuable sailing experience to build on next time.

Thank you especially to SCTC Weymouth for hosting us and to Lt (SCC)  Harris and PO (SCC) Paluscis for helping us out with instruction.
