At Thrapston we aim to give young people an experience that will help them grow into the person they want to be in a safe and friendly environment. Through various activities and adventures, we learn teamwork, respect, loyalty, self-confidence, commitment, self-discipline, honesty and how to be the best version of ourselves.
You learn life skills. I was 12, very quiet and shy. Cadets makes you find the confidence. You feel part of something special. Serafina, 15
We offer a range of different activities from sailing, windsurfing and powerboating - to rock climbing, camping, and music - plus, so much more! At Thrapston you are also able to gain different qualifications that you can take with you once you leave Sea Cadets!
"It makes me feel I can do things others can't. I don't want to stay in my house every day. I want to see how the world is."
Shaun, 13
It is our priority to make sure that Sea Cadets is a safe environment young people can go to, to be themselves. Click here to find out more about how we safeguard our young people.
At Thrapston Sea Cadets, we offer young people aged 10–18 the opportunity to explore, grow, and thrive in a dynamic and supportive environment. Inspired by the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy, our activities are designed to help cadets gain confidence, build skills, and make memories that last a lifetime.
From sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding to powerboating, our cadets learn to master the water with expert instruction. On land, they engage in adventure training, first aid, and navigation skills that prepare them for challenges and opportunities beyond their time with us.
Every cadet has the chance to develop leadership and teamwork skills through structured training and hands-on experiences. Whether planning expeditions or leading their peers, cadets learn how to take charge and support others—a vital foundation for future success.
We offer training in areas like cooking, engineering, and communication, helping cadets develop practical skills that are useful in everyday life and future careers.
As part of a global network of Sea Cadets, we foster a strong sense of community. Cadets participate in parades, fundraising events, and civic ceremonies, connecting with their local area and representing their unit with pride.
Sea Cadets have the chance to go beyond Thrapston, with access to national competitions, international exchanges, and even voyages on the iconic tall ship TS Royalist.
Thrapston Sea Cadets provides a safe and inclusive space where young people can explore their potential, make lifelong friends, and take on challenges they never thought possible.
