POPPY APPEAL

POPPY APPEAL

Well done to all of our cadets who gave up their weekend to raise money for the Poppy Appeal during November 2014. We attended a ceremony hosted by the Royal British Legion on Sunday 22 February 2015 and were told Whitley Bay Sea Cadets raised a total of £564.92, and we know our local Royal British Legion are grateful for your efforts.

Money raised through the Poppy Appeal goes directly to the welfare work of the Royal British Legion, providing through life care to anyone who is currently serving in the British Armed Forces, who has previously served, and their families.

RED NOSE DAY 2015

As grateful recipients of Comic Relief/Sport Relief funding, we are supporting Red Nose Day this year. On Friday 13 March 2015, we are asking our cadets to either purchase red noses or paint their noses red and for every cadet who does, the Unit Management Team will donate £1.00 to Comic Relief.

POTS AND PANCAKES VISIT

POTS AND PANCAKES VISIT

On Friday 27 February we decided to treat our cadets to a rather unusual parade night by inviting Pots and Pancakes to visit us! We had a fantastic time designing, creating and painting tiles on a nautical based theme which we will install in our new galley after it has been built....whilst enjoying pancakes at the same time! Thank you to Pots and Pancakes for coming to visit us and sharing your creative skills!

You can see some photos our Facebook page, the link is on our homepage.

HER MAJESTY'S LORD-LIEUTENANT PRESENTATION

HER MAJESTY'S LORD-LIEUTENANT PRESENTATION

Whitley Bay Sea Cadet Emily Burston, aged 17, has been awarded the prestigious role of Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland’s Cadet. The official ceremony took place on Tuesday 10 February 2015 which the Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland, Her Grace Duchess of Northumberland attended.

Emily’s new role as Lord-Lieutenant Cadet of Northumberland involves assisting the Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland in events, such as on parade for Royal visits, military and civic events and church services, as well as act as an ambassador for Sea Cadets and young people living in Northumberland. The role will last a year from January 2015.

Emily, a Petty Officer Cadet at Whitley Bay Sea Cadets, is delighted with her new role, especially as she’s the first cadet at the unit to be awarded this role in the unit’s 72 year history.

She says: “I’m really thrilled to be a Lord-Lieutenant Cadet for Northumberland! Its an honour for both myself and the Unit. I’m really proud to act on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant; it’s such a prestigious role.

Sea Cadets has opened many doors for me. I joined in 2010 and haven’t looked back since. I have gained qualifications in sailing, powerboating, kayaking and canoeing, and enjoyed many trips away competing in local and national events. I have recently completed National Citizen Service, and can now look forward to my new role as Lord-Lieutenant Cadet for Northumberland”.

Whitley Bay Sea Cadets Unit is celebrating another success. Commanding Officer Jane Fox has been awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service in recognition of her outstanding loyalty and commitment to Sea Cadets for 30 years of volunteering with the charity. Jane was also presented with her certificate at the official ceremony on Tuesday 10 February.
