On Wednesday 10 September 2014, the Marine Management Organisation and Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authority in Blyth invited us to their headquarters for a rather unusual parade night. Our cadets had a fantastic time learning about these two vital organisations The MMO license, regulate and plan marine activities in the seas around England and Wales so that they're carried out in a sustainable way which helps the Government achieve its vision for clean, healthy, productive and biologically diverse oceans and seas. IFCA are responsible for fisheries and conservation management. Thank you to everyone who made this fantastic experience possible.

WWI COMMEMORATION EVENT
The Chairman of North Tyneside Council, Councillor Janice Hunter invited us to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War by taking part in a parade, wreath laying and a church service on 10 August 2014.
Along with other uniformed youth groups, members of the community and our friends from Wallsend Sea Cadets, we marched with pride from Springfield Park to St Bartholemew’s Church in Forest Hall and played a leading part in a poignant church service.
RNLI CULLERCOATS HARBOUR DAY
Despite disappointing weather, Cullercoats Harbour Day attracted lots of visitors to the lifeboat station on Saturday 19 July 2014 and Whitley Bay Sea Cadets were proud to support the event and helped our local RNLI raise £5,500.
The beach offered a variety of activities including pony rides, a climbing wall, a coconut shy and photographs taken on the lifeboat, which was particularly popular. Live music, provided by local group ‘The Parish’ kept everyone’s spirits high during the day whilst people viewed the mixture of stalls. There was the well-liked ‘hook a duck’, bric-a-brac and a number of food stands.
A demonstration was given by the RNLI Cullercoats volunteer lifeboat crew of a sea rescue and afterwards many children had the opportunity to sit on the lifeboat and were given an explanation of how the boat operates and had their own photo opportunity.
The whole day, which takes months of organisation, is planned and coordinated by the Cullercoats and Whitley Bay Ladies Lifeboat Guild who liaise with local businesses, North Tyneside Council, and stall and entertainment providers.
Chairperson, Pat Maddison said: ‘I would like to thank everyone who came to support Harbour Day especially when there were other events taking place on the same day. Harbour Day would not be a success without the hard work of the volunteers of the Guild, the lifeboat crew, Sea Cadets and the Territorial Army. All the raffle prizes were donated by local businesses to which I must thank for their generosity.’
HMS TYNE TOUR
On 13 July, 2014 we were fortunate enough to be invited on to HMS Tyne by the Captain for a tour of the ship whilst she was berthed in North Shields. We were told about how to fight a fire, the work the Royal Navy personnel do whilst at sea on HMS Tyne, a talk from the Captain, the opportunity to sit in his chair on the bridge and we got to play with the thermal imaging camera and lots of other gadgets!
