On Thursday 26 March, seven Sea Cadets from Northants & Leicester District took part in King Richard III historic second burial – one that was more fit for a king, and watched by thousands of people around the world. The service was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury and attended by many important people, including Sophie The Countess of Wessex, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and families whose ancestors were involved in the War of the Roses.

One of the lucky cadets selected to attend was POC Kieran. He told us what it was like to take part: “We led a procession that marched through the streets into Leicester Cathedral. I was honoured to receive an invitation in my final year of being a Sea Cadet – as someone who appreciates the importance of ceremonial occasions, this was close to my heart."

Sea Cadets across London are thrilled to receive four new RS Tera sailing dinghies, delivered to their Welsh Harp boating station in North London on Monday 23 March, thanks to a hefty contribution from Eric Twiname Trust!

Harrow and Richmond Sea Cadets units applied to Eric Twiname Trust to purchase the sailing dinghies, and were successful in just under half of the funding to purchase four RS Tera sailing dinghies. The new dinghies, which all Sea Cadets across London will benefit from, will be put through their paces during the Easter holidays by juniors, aged 10-12, for beginner courses and the boating station is organising a friendly race against other youth sailing clubs.

Sea Cadets across the UK are one step closer to realising their dreams of a 21st century UK flagship as they celebrate the ship being out on the water for the very first time! The crew of the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Gondan and Bill Fairbairn who is overseeing the ship’s build are sailing TS Royalist today.

We look forward to TS Royalist coming into the UK in May ready for the naming and commissioning ceremony.

A group of Rolls-Royce graduates are looking to design, develop and deliver an education workshop for Sea Cadets to encourage them to think about an engineering career.  

Many cadets gain engineering qualifications at their unit and they have the nautical knowledge that would be beneficial to a career in marine engineering.  Although these workshops are available to all cadets, research conducted by the charity WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) states that at present, women only make up 5% of the engineering profession.

Six Royal Marines Cadet (RMC) detachments competed against each other at the weekend at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre in Lympstone, Devon to take home the Gibraltar Cup. The weekend saw 48 RMCs complete a tough obstacle course as well as six leadership tasks that tested their navigation, teamwork and communication skills.

Congratulations to Truro Detachment (Alpha Company) for coming first, and to Cpl Oliver (Zulu Company) for being awarded a Section Commanders' Leadership Trophy for communicating, listening and navigating his team exceptionally.
