TS ROYALIST FINAL SAIL INTO PORTSMOUTH

TS ROYALIST FINAL SAIL INTO PORTSMOUTH

18/11/2014

TS Royalist, Sea Cadets faithful flagship, will sail into Gosport for the ship’s decommissioning ceremony on Thursday 20 November. Hundreds of Sea Cadets will gather at Petrol Pier to say farewell to the 43 year old ship that has taken 30,000 cadets on an offshore voyage they will never forget.

TS Royalist was commissioned 1971 by HRH The Princess Royal and built by Groves and Gutteridge Ltd in Cowes. Since then the ship has sailed 212,850 nautical miles – nine times around the world, taking 900 Sea Cadets on an offshore voyage every year.  In 1971, TS Royalist received the Lloyd’s Register Yacht Award for the ‘best constructed, best designed and best equipped vessel for its purpose.’

A new 21st Century flagship is currently being built at Spanish shipyard Astilleros Gondan S.A, to replace TS Royalist, to ensure future generations of Sea Cadets can benefit from an offshore experience.

WE WILL REMEMBER

WE WILL REMEMBER

11/11/2014

At 11am today, Sea Cadets will be observing a two minute silence in remembrance of all those who fell in the First World War.

Cadets across the country have been involved in commemorative parades and services to mark Remembrance Day, and to honour all those who have lost their lives in conflicts.

POC James from London Western District was given the honour of taking part in the World War One centenary at the Tower of London, where he met The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to help them plant a poppy. The iconic exhibition 'Blood Swept Lands' features more than 800,000 ceramic poppies pouring out of the tower and into the dry moat, and has been visited by thousands to pay their respects.

They laid a wreath at the national Remembrance Sunday service, which the Royal family and political party leaders attended at the Cenotaph Parade in Whitehall, London on Sunday 9 November.

Over 100 Sea Cadets from across London are taking part in the Lord Mayor’s Parade on Saturday 8 November in the City of London, to celebrate the arrival of the 687th Lord Mayor.

Thousands of people will be lining the streets to watch the procession, including our float, which has been designed this year with the theme of nautical adventure and fun. All made possible with the generous support of the Worshipful Company of Management Consultants and Quatro Plant Ltd. If you can't make it on the day, BBC will be covering it live!

Crowds will also be treated to Sea Cadets signature tune, Ready Aye Ready, played by bands from Tunbridge Wells, Herne Bay and Poole. Check out the photos on the Sea Cadets UK Facebook page.
